About Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan was born on 18 July 1998. As of writing, it makes him 25 years old. He is an International cricketer who plays for the Indian national cricket team.  Further, he is a batter as well as wicket keeper. Furthermore, he made his international debut in March 2021, against England.  In domestic cricket, he plays for Jharkhand and in the Indian Premier League, he plays for Mumbai Indians. Also, he was the captain of the India Squad for the 2016 under-19 world cricket cup.

His father Pranav Kumar Pandey by profession is a builder in Patna.  He played for Jharkhand Due to the registration issues between the Bihar Cricket Association and the board of Control for cricket in India (BCCI). For this reason, he started playing for his neighbouring state Jharkhand.

In 2022, in a one-day international (ODI) match against Bangladesh, he scored 210 runs in 131 balls. Indeed, by this performance, he became the youngest cricketer to score an ODI double century. Further, the first batter to convert a maiden ODI century to a double century.

He has a great domestic career in terms of numbers. On 6 November 2016, he banged 273 runs against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy 2016-17. He set a new record for a player for Jharkhand in the competition. After that, in the Ranji Trophy 2017-18, he was the leading run-scorer for Jharkhand with 484 runs in just six matches. Thereafter, he scored 405 runs in nine matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19.

Later, he was selected in the India C squad for the Deodhar Trophy, in October 2018. In this tournament, he scored a century in the final of the tournament. On 2019, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018-19, he banged an unbeaten century against Jammu and Kashmir. In the same tournament, and in the subsequent match against Manipur, he scored 113 runs not out, back-to-back centuries. Later in August 2019, he was selected in the Red’s squad for the Duleep Trophy 2019-20.  Plus, in February 2021, on the opening day of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21, he scored 173 runs against Madhya Pradesh.

Flight of Indian Premier League

He was bought by Gujarat Lions in the IPL auction of 2016. Later in 2018, he was bought by the Mumbai Indians in an auction. After that, in the 2020 season, he was the highest run scorer for Mumbai with 516 runs from 14 matches.  Plus, he won the award for hitting the most sixes in the season. Thereafter, he was again bought by Mumbai for INR 15.25 crore. It makes him the second most expensive Indian player at the auction, after Yuvraj Singh.

International career

In February 2021, he was selected for India’s T20 international squad for home series against England. However, it was his maiden international call-up. Further, he went to make his debut on 14 March 2021 where he scored 56 runs from 32 balls. In fact, he won the award of player of the match. Later few months in June 2021, he was named in India’s ODI along with T20I squads for their Sri Lanka tour.

Additionally, he made his ODI debut in July by scoring 59 runs from 42 balls.

In September, his name was forwarded to India’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men T20 World Cup. Kishan banged his ODI career-highest score of 93 runs in the second match of three ODIs in the tour of South Africa. At the age of 24 years, he became the fastest player to score a double century in ODI, during the tour of Bangladesh. Evidently, he scored 210 runs from 131 balls. This led to reaching the mark of 200 runs in 126 deliveries by beating Chris Gayle’s record of 13 balls.  In the subsequent year 2023, he was selected in India’s squad for 50 over the world cup. However, he was picked as the replacement for an Indian opener Shubman Gill in the first match against Australia. But he couldn’t score. After that, in the next match against Afghanistan, scored 47 runs from 47 balls.
